Squirrels 4, Brewins 3 (SO)

The Squirrels won their fourth in a row Monday, surviving a late push by the Brewins and winning 4-3 in a shootout.

While trailing 1-0 in the first, Jon Danziger launched a hail-mary pass in the air to Marc Irby, who skated in on a breakaway and scored short-side. Only seconds later, Brent Machado won the faceoff to Danziger, who shot the puck from the left point, which then deflected off Machado’s skate and into the net.

The Squirrels took a commanding 3-1 lead in the second as Tony Richelsen skated up the middle and took a perfect centering pass which he sniped in.

The Brewins chipped away, scoring later in the second and early in the third. Then came the shootout.

The Brewins were one save from winning the game but the Squirrels persevered. After Ari Stock kept the Squirrels in it with a right-left-right dunk, Danziger saved the Squirrels with his pull-back move and Neil Shah – who came late to the game but proved pivotal to the outcome – tucked in the winner.
