Ice: Squirrels 3, Mastodons 2

With just six skaters to start the game, the Squirrels had their work cut out for them Sunday afternoon against the first-place Mastodons.

Despite plenty of chances, the Squirrels didn’t crack the board until the third period, trailing 1-0 for much of the game. After Brent Machado’s sneaky low shot zipped by the goalie’s far side, the Mastodons regained the lead more than halfway through the period.

With 12:06 to play, Machado crashed the net and had a shot bounce in to tie the game again.

With 29 seconds to go, the Mastodons took a penalty. Vivek Pinto wasted no time off the right-side faceoff, as Machado won it and Pinto dunked it in for the winner.

Defenders Tony Richelsen and Charles Wolstein played the majority of the game, and only got a couple of minutes to rest. Craig Beatty made 20 saves.
