The Squirrels and Meltdown played an extremely tight game Sunday, but the Squirrels prevailed, 3-2.
Meltdown struck first late in Period 1, with their goalie John Scavilla making an incredible glove save on Tony Richelsen in the waning minute. The Squirrels struck twice in the second, with Bob Valdes and Arie Stock tallying to give the Squirrels a 2-1 lead. Meltdown tied it up early in the second. With five minutes to go in the game, Ben Sumner raced up the right wing and wristed a shot through Scavilla’s far side for the winner.
The Squirrels killed the rest of the time and won their second in a row, dropping Meltdown to sole possession of 6th place, while the Squirrels are in a three-way tie for third.
Goalie Craig Beatty made 41 saves for the Squirrels.
