Of all the heartbreaking upsets the Squirrels had suffered in the playoffs over the years, Thursday’s 7-6 shootout loss to the High Rollerz was yet another, as the Squirrels lost a second-half 4-1 lead and were eliminated from the playoffs.
The Squirrels even had an overtime power play but couldn’t convert. Casey Carpenter carried the Squirrels with 4 goals. Charles Warner scored one shorthanded, and Arie Stock also scored. Ultimately, a 2-minute stretch where the Squirrels gave up four goals did them in. Despite that, the Squirrels had possession and a shot advantage, 37-26.
Meanwhile, the Jesters smoked the Dinosaurs, 7-0, in the biggest lopsided upset against a no. 1 seed in years, then beat High Rollerz, 4-1. It was a huge championship for the Jesters, who finished 7-7, in fourth place this season.
