Brewins 4, Squirrels 3 (SO)

The Squirrels took a lead, squandered the lead, battled back, then fell in a shootout Saturday against the Brewins, 4-3.

David Chung and Brent Machado got the scoring going in the first two periods, giving the Squirrels a comfortable lead until the last minute of the second period. Then, two turnovers and an inch gave the Brewins a 2-2 tie instead of a 3-1 Squirrels lead. After the Brewins capitalized off of a turnover, the Squirrels rushed down and hit a post on a gaping net, and then give up a goal on the following rush. This was in the last 30 seconds of the second period.

The Brewins got another goal through traffic off of a face-off to take a 3-2 lead. The Squirrels caught a break when a Brewins goal was washed off due to a kick of the puck, though it appeared to be more of a pinball than an actual kick.

The Squirrels finally tied the game with the goalie pulled as Chung scored his second of the game.

In the shootout, the Brewins scored their first two goals. Jon Danziger, who was playing his first game since the Spring, kept the Squirrels in it with his usual penalty shot deek but the Squirrels couldn’t finish.
