Squirrels 7, Invincibles 6

The Squirrels and Invincibles played quite the game on Friday, with the Squirrels pulling ahead and barely retaining the lead for a 7-6 win.

After missing a year due to injury, Tony Richelsen was back in the lineup, scoring the first goal f the game, on a short-handed breakaway. As that same penalty expired, Brent Machado came out of the box and got a pass from Ben Sumner, scoring on yet another breakaway. Both goals were in the top right corner.

The Invincibles then scored twice quickly to tie the game at 2-2 going into the second period.

The teams traded goals in the second – Machado had his second, and they were tied at 3-3 going into the third.

The Invincibles made a bizarre move early in the third. On a shift where they were clearly being dominated by the Squirrels, a whistle couldn’t given them a line change. They didn’t, and then Mario Constantinou deflected in a shot to put the Squirrels up 4-3.

Then, the Squirrels got yet another break as Dave Chung exited the penalty box and got a pass for a breakaway, putting the Squirrels up 5-3. The Invincibles would answer on the next shift, and Machado finished his hat-trick shortly after that. Then the Invincibles scored, then Scott Kronzek gave them a 7-5 lead. The Invincibles would score once more, but for some reason didn’t pull their goalie in the final minute, and the Squirrels kept their 7-6 lead.
