Blades of Steel 5, Squirrels 4

The Squirrels lost their first game in months Sunday, getting outplayed through much of the game but still coming 23 seconds within securing a point, as they lost 5-4 to Blades of Steel.

Blades scored on their first shift, and little else happened in the first period until Desmond Richelsen dumped the puck on net, and the goalie misplayed the puck to Brent Machado, who tied the game going into the second.

Blades would take a 2-1 lead early in the second period, but late in the period, Tero Moberg and Vivek Pinto had a 2-on-1, and Moberg sniped in a shot to tie the game.

Blades of Steel would score twice more in the third to take a 4-2 lead, but Scott Kronzek scored with a few minutes remaining. Needing a goal, the Squirrels pulled their goalie, Merritt Lyon, and Pinto would score through a scramble with a minute left to tie the game. But in the last 30 seconds, a Blades player ended up on a breakaway and scored the winner with just 23 seconds to go.
