The Squirrels ended a four-game losing streak Wednesday with a 4-2 victory against the Mastodons, as both teams only had eight skaters.
Tim Turk scored in the first period for the Squirrels, but the Mastodons tied the game very late in the second period, as the Squirrels insisted the play should have been icing.
Turk was stopped on another breakaway early in the third period but sniped in a shot shortly afterward. The Squirrels started taking penalties in the third, but Tony Richelsen stole a puck deep in the Mastodons’ zone and scored short-handed. Bob Valdes scored the fourth for the Squirrels, who then gave up a goal for a 4-2 lead. The Mastodons had a late 5-on-3 but the Squirrels killed it.
