The Squirrels opened the season Friday with a victory against the team that knocked them out of the playoffs, as they shook off a short-benched Bullets team, 6-2.
The Bullets, however, got off to a good start, going up 2-0 early as the Squirrels struggled to score. It took a power play to get them their first goal, as Don Marks dunked in a rebound from Mike Bartock.
The second period was better, as Tim Stump and Bartock each got a goal, but the lead was only 3-2 with plenty of time remaining. It wasn’t until more than halfway through the third period when the Squirrels blew the game wide open, with goals by Tony Richelsen, Billy King and Bob Valdes.
