Squirrels 4, Laughing Skulls 2

The Squirrels played an all-around complete game on Monday, getting both early and late pressure for a 4-2 win against the Laughing Skulls.

Dave Chung got the scoring started with a no-look backhander in the high slot on the power play. Geoff Grek later scored the second of the game just before the first period ended. Early in the second, Tim Stump scored to put the Squirrels up 3-0, but despite the score, play was relatively even. Soon after, the Skulls scored two quick goals and the Squirrels were suddenly only ahead by a goal.

That lead help, and about five minutes into the third, Stump collected a deflection and netted his second of the game and gave the Squirrels some breathing room. The Skulls pulled their goalie and the Squirrels took a few shots down the rink but couldn’t get the empty-netter.

In one of the strangest endings ever, the scorekeeper didn’t stop the clock after a whistle with about 16 seconds left, and time ran out. The Skulls didn’t protest, and the game ended.
