The Squirrels were warned ahead of Saturday’s 4-0 win that the Wolfe Pack wasn’t fielding its strongest roster. And while the game ended with Craig Beatty’s shutout for the Squirrels, it was hardly a cakewalk.
It took nearly a full period for the Squirrels to score, when Mario Constantinou hit in a rebound after dinging a post to give the Squirrels a 1-0 lead. Mike Bartock scored early in the second period, and Tony Richelsen scored late in the period. Wolfe Pack came close a couple of times but the Squirrels kept the puck out. Bartock scored his second of the game early in the third period, right before the Squirrels took two penalties that gave Wolfe Pack a 5-on-3 for a bit of time, but the Squirrels prevailed.
