Trailing much of the game, the Screaming Squirrels stormed back in the third period, and then beat one of the top teams in the league in a shootout, 7-6.
The Bullets’ 3A team had been in a division lower, but got moved up with an undefeated record, then proceeded to routinely beat teams in that division. Even the Squirrels fell victim to them earlier this season.
But Saturday, the Squirrels showed what they’re made of. Trailing 5-3 going into the third period, the Squirrels scored three times, including their second shorthanded goal late in the period.
In the shootout, Torrey Pocock made two of three saves in the shootout. Neil Shah and Tony Richelsen scored in the shootout, with Richelsen scoring the game winner.
With the win, the Squirrels have now beaten every team in the division at least once.
