The Squirrels dealt the Dinosaurs their first regulation loss Tuesday, holding on in their lowest scoring match of the season, 5-4.
Charles Warner got the scoring started from a cross-rink feed from Tyler Patty, whacking the puck into a gaping net. Warner later rang a shot off the post and Vivek Pinto slammed in the rebound. The Dinosaurs scored a late first-period goal to cut the Squirrels’ lead to 2-1.
On the first shift of the second period, Patty broke for the net as Casey Carpenter sent a perfect lob pass which landed on his stick for a breakaway, and the Squirrels took a 3-1 lead. The Dinosaurs scored the next two, however, but Carpenter and Ben Sumner scored in a span of 23 seconds to give the Squirrels a two-goal cushion. The Dinosaurs scored one more and put on a late scramble, but the Squirrels held on.
