With only seven skaters and a foggy Olympic-sized rink to skate on, the Screaming Squirrels managed to easily beat the Whalers – at least on the scoreboard – 6-1.
It took a while for the Squirrels to get going as the summer mist overtook the ice, making it often impossible to see the puck, especially around the boards. Finally Tony Richelsen broke loose for a goal to get the Squirrels on the board. David Chung scored a few minutes after on a power play. The first period seemed to take forever.
Mario Constantinou scored in the second before he took a penalty against Whaler on a breakaway, which gave them a penalty shot. The missed, and then Richelsen scored with only four seconds on the clock to for a 4-0 lead.
Ben Sumner scored in the first minute of the third before the Whalers, on a power play, ended up scoring an own-goal. Constantinou was given credit.
The Whalers finally got on the board with a few minutes left but the game was out of reach.
Craig Beatty was credited with 10 saves.
