The Squirrels battled, but Blades of Steel got the better of them Monday with a 6-4 win.
Ultimately, the poor first period for the Squirrels did them in, as they were down 3-0 going into the second.
Brent Machado and Scott Kronzek each scored to cut the lead to 3-2 before Blades scored again. The Squirrels would get two more goals in the third period, from Machado, and Charles Wolstein, a usual stay-at-home defenseman who cut to the net, but the Squirrels couldn’t finish
Neil Shah was injured in the second period when his shoulder hit the boards.
Tero Moberg, who started the game on defense but finished on the left wing, had three assists.
It was the last game of the year for the Squirrels, who next play January 3, 2019.
