Missing more than half of their regulars, the Screaming Squirrels edged out the Laughing Skulls on Monday in their first game since moving up to Bronze 1.
The Skulls scored first, but Vivek Pinto answered on the very same shift,. Later in the period, Mario Constantinou sent a Hail Mary pass to Pinto, who cut through two defenseman to receive it and score on a breakaway. The Skulls scored again, however, and it was 2-2 after the first.
Bryan Chiang floated in a shot on a pass from Neil Shah at the beginning of the second period to give the Squirrels a 3-2 lead. While killing a penalty a few minutes later, Brent Machado floated in a shot into the left corner. The Skulls would cut the lead to 4-3 at the end of the second, however, but there would be no more scoring after that.
The Squirrels played with a sub goalie, while beating Skulls goalie Sarah Modzelewski, one of the better Bronze goalies.
