The Squirrels dominated the first period, had a lousy second period, and put forth a valiant effort in the third but got knocked out of the playoffs, 5-2, to the Laughing Skulls on Saturday.
While the Squirrels had the possession advantage and plenty of opportunities in the first period, only Brent Machado scored as he slam-dunked a power play shot to put the Squirrels up 1-0. This happened after he drew a double minor and a misconduct.
In the second, the Squirrels still played okay but couldn’t get anything past the goalie, while the Laughing Skulls scored three times.
The Squirrels will still very much in the game in the third but gave up yet another, having plenty of chances to add on. Mario Constantinou scored on a late power play but then the Laughing Skulls scored another. One player on that team – which had a large lineup – had four of the five goals.
