The final score was no surprise as the Squirrels beat the winless Bullets, 5-1, on Monday, but the score was 1-1 going into the third period in a game where the Squirrels put up 56 shots on net.
Scott Kronzek got the scoring started early in the game with a top-corner shot, but the Bullets responded, getting their one and only goal on Squirrels sub David Tran.
The Squirrels dominated most of the play throughout the next 30 minutes but couldn’t get a puck through. Finally in the third period, David Chung hit in his own rebound to give the Squirrels a 2-1 lead, then the floodgates opened. Mario Constantinou scored on the next shift, and both he and Kronzek nearly scored another on their next shift as well. Tero Moberg scored shortly after as the Squirrels put up three goals in 1:07. Constantinou scored again at 8:06.
A Clams game in Rockville at the same time meant a few players played there instead. Both Constantinou and Dave Chung brought beer for the Squirrels.
