The Squirrels leap-frogged the Outsiders in the standings for third place on Saturday, defeating them 7-2 in a game that was a lot closer than the final score.
Seeking revenge for an early-season shootout loss, the Squirrels outplayed the Outsiders most of the game, even during a scoreless first period. Mario Constantinou and Vivek Pinto finally scored in the second period but the 2-0 score wasn’t safe as the Outsiders were getting plenty of chances.
When Scott Kronzek and Mike Bartock scored early in the third to give the Squirrels a 4-0 lead, the score seemed safe but then the Outsiders scored with plenty of time remaining. Kronzek and Constantinou would score again. The Outsiders got one more goal and Ben Sumner banked in a shot off of the goalie’s face mask with three minutes remaining.
Merritt Lyon played in net for the Squirrels.
