The Squirrels beat the hottest team in the league Tuesday, taking advantage of the Brewins’ short bench in a 6-4 win. It wasn’t easy, though, as the Brewins jumped out to a 2-0 lead despite the Squirrels dominating possession.
Tim Turk got the Squirrels on the board in the first period, but the Brewins had a 3-1 lead soon after.
Turk, Vivek Pinto and Brent Machado each scored in the second period, only for the Brewins to tie it upon a power play.
The Squirrels then scored twice in the third period, and missed several shots on the Brewins’ empty net.
Jimmy Goodwin played in net for the Squirrels.
The Brewins had almost caught up with the Squirrels in the standings but their loss locked up first place for the Squirrels.
