The Squirrels started off the season with a full bench and a win over the Summer champions The Bullets on Wednesday, scoring three goals in the third period.
Tony Richelsen and Tero Moberg both scored in the first period, giving the Squirrels a 2-0 lead that lasted through much of the second period as well. A defensive turnover led to The Bullets’ first goal.
The Bullets tied it early in the third period as former Squirrel Terry Young scored, but Geoff Grek gave the Squirrels the lead again on the next shift. The Bullets had their second goal of the game called off as the net came off, but they scored in the very next faceoff.
Then Tony Richelsen scooped up a loose puck and netted in the game-winning goal with about four minutes to go, then scored on an empty netter from deep in the Squirrels zone.
