Squirrels 6, More Boos 5

The Squirrels got a hard-fought victory Wednesday, staying tied through two periods but winning the third, 6-5.

Down 2-0 in the first period, Scott Kronzek and Geoff Grek each scored to tie the game. More Boos regained the lead early in the second period but Grek’s shot was deflected in by Brent Machado to tie the game again.

In the third, Mike Bartock scored on the opening shift, and Kronzek’s one-timer from the left wing put the Squirrels up 5-3. But the Squirrels kept taking penalties down the stretch, though it’s possible that some of those penalties actually helped preserve the victory. But after killing off a 5-on-3, the Squirrels just had to run out the clock. More Boos did, however, score to pull within one, but Emily Emmons scored on the empty net from the defensive zone to put the Squirrels back up 6-4. More Boos scored once more with 21 seconds remaining but the Squirrels held on for the win.
