Roller: Squirrels 5, Jesters 4 (SO)

In what was one of the most bizarre finishes of the season, the Squirrels defeated the Jesters 5-4 after a 9-round shootout Tuesday.

Up 4-2 in the second on goals by Casey Carpenter, Mark Tessar, Ben Sumner and Carpenter again, the Squirrels then surrendered two down the stretch. In the shootout, Carpenter scored the game-saver in the third round, then the winner in the ninth round. As one of the Jesters skated up for his second shot of the shootout, he overskated the puck not once, but three times, before the play was called dead, giving the Squirrels the victory. The same player had previously scored in the second round. Greg Hainer also scored in the shootout.

Roller: Squirrels 5, Dinosaurs 2

The Squirrels dealt the first-place Dinosaurs their first loss of the season Tuesday, clamping down defensively and taking advantage of a few fast freaks and a couple of turnovers en route to a 5-2 victory.

Despite the Dinosaurs controlling most of the game as if they were on a power play, the Squirrels kept them to the outside, and Bob Sewell made plenty of saves. Up 2-0 on goals by Stu Miller and Ben Sumner, the Squirrels had a third one called off due to a quick whistle.

The Dinosaurs finally scored in the second period, short-handed, but the Casey Carpenter and Mark Tessar each scored unassisted off of turnovers to put the game out of reach. The Dinosaurs scored once more off of a slap shot before Carpenter added an empty-netter.
