Squirrels 4, Laughing Skulls 1

A week after winning a game due to the other team forfeiting, the Screaming Squirrels finished the regular season with a solid 4-1 victory against the Laughing Skulls on Sunday.

With the score tied at 1 for much of the first two periods, the Squirrels went ahead in the second period, then tacked on two more in the third, helping them keep third place in the division heading into the playoffs.

The first playoff game will be Sun, Mar 30 at 6:00 p.m.

The Squirrels fell back to Earth on Sunday as they faced the second-to-last Laughing Skulls and their Silver-level ringer in a 2-0 win for the Skulls. The Squirrels only played with eight skaters and were shut out for the first time this season.

The Squirrels remain in third place in the division going into winter break.

The Squirrels came from behind to defeat the Laughing Skulls in a shootout Saturday. Brent Machado had a hat-trick while Mark Tessar and Vivek Pinto each scored twice. In the shootout, Machado, Pinto and Jon Danziger scored.

The Screaming Squirrels avenged an early-season loss to the first place Laughing Skulls on Sunday, scoring three third-period goals in route to a 7-5 victory. Down 5-4 going into the third period, Jon Danziger, Ben Sumner and Mark Tessar scored to lift the Squirrels to victory. Brent Machado had two goals and three assists, while Danziger and Don Marks had the other two goals.

Just two weeks removed from winning the championship, the Screaming Squirrels found themselves up a level on Sunday, playing against the Laughing Skulls in the Silver 4 division. While the Squirrels handled the pressure of a higher-level team for much of the game, they let three get through and missed a few opportunities of their own while falling, 3-0.
